Ants in his pants

Today we, a few girls and I, challenged and had a bet going that Dr. Whitaker couldn't sit in a chair and not move for at least 5 minutes.

Well he only lasted 23 seconds:)

Dr. Whitaker is always moving around the room and hardly stands in the same spot for more than one minute.

Injections

At lunch they had watermelon that tasted AMAZING!!!!

The kittens at the barn are becoming quite the entertainment. When we were playing with them the kittens continually tried to attack our boots and would chase them around the whole stall. They gave us a great laugh! Sarah has her favorite kitten and so desperately wants to take it home. This little guy purrs like there's no tomorrow and if you set him down he pouts.

In class this week we are learning and practicing injections. Before we were let loose on our own Dr. Kerns gave us a demo.

Because all of the class was standing behind Dr. Kerns he had to crouch down and demonstrate the injection.

Even though I was nervous while watching Dr. Kerns, I was filled with excitement and could hardly contain my excitement. I guess I was mostly nervous, because I was going to actually be practicing on a real life animal and there wasn't exactly room for error.
I was the designated "drug dealer" of our group.

We practiced two intramuscular injections; rump and neck injections, along with drawing blood.

I had the hardest time finding our horse's jugular vein. I am determined to get a full blood sample next class.

Check Up

Cowgirl is still out:( I stopped and talked with the barn managers yesterday after class to see what was going on. Cowgirl had been limping on Thursday two weeks ago, so they took her to the farrier to look at her front left leg. He didn't see anything, but she was sensitive when taking off the shoe. The farrier had gone to trim the hoof and ended up cutting into the quick. As a result, she started bleeding and they had to bandage her hoof up. I had seen the bandage on Wednesday last week and was curious what she had gotten done to her hoof.
The bandage was off and her feet had been treated last week and they were evaluating her just as class was getting done so I hung around and observed.

Cowgirl is going to be out for the rest of the week. I guess Goody is going to have to be the horse that I test on. Our next test for our riding class is Monday next week on bending. We will have to see how Goody and I do. Hopefully better than yesterday during class!

Oh, and I got my grade back for my Chemistry exam a few weeks ago. I got a 102 out of 100!!! The average of the class was a 70.

Movie

After getting all clean and warm Morgan and I decided to watch "The Hunger Games." Morgan had never seen the movie or read the books, but had always wanted to see it.
We made our own version of  a living room

I found out that Morgan is just as bad as I am during suspenseful parts of movies. Here is a recording of her yelling at the TV

Paintballing

On Sunday at brunch I called the place that we were hoping was open so that we could go paintballing and they said they were open. So we quickly got changed out of our church clothes and into some clothes we didn't care if they got paint on them. I was so excited!!! I was jumping around the cafeteria and our dorm room! Paige was driving, so Morgan, Kai and I all piled into Paige's car and prepared for a 45minute drive to the paintball place. We got to the address and the gates were closed. I called the place and asked them how to get to them and they asked where I was and I replied "in front of your gate in the driveway." To that they responded "well we didn't have enough players so we closed for the day." What?!?!?!? I had just called you 45 minutes ago and you were open and your hours say 11-5 on Sundays! So we turned around and drove our disappointed butts back to campus. So much for paintballing!:( Both Kai and I haven ever been paintballing so we were the most disappointed ones out of the four of us. We decided we would run off our sorrow and disappointment all the way to Dairy Queen and eat our sorrows away too.

Well I was not content and was determined to go paintballing. So I got my phone out and the list of paintballing places in Ohio and started calling. I was on try number 4 when a sweet and cheerful lady answered the phone and said that they were open from 2 till dark, they had everything we needed to play and so much more. Now all we needed was a ride. Logan said he wanted to go so I asked him and he was more than willing to take us. At 4:00 Kai, Morgan and I climbed into Logan's car and got ready for an hour and seven minute drive. We weren't not about to be disappointed again and waste all our time driving out there so I called the place again while we were still on campus. I was hesitant to call them as this would be the second time in less than 3 hours. The same lady answered the phone as I asked are you still open? She replied "are you the one that called earlier?"
In a timid voice "yeah"
lady "how long till you get here?"
Me: "One hour and seven minutes."

Lady "well we will be here expecting you then!"
Finally we arrived at the paintball place with no complications. The people came out to welcome us and invited us in asked if we wanted some hot chocolate, gave us some papers to sign and paid them. Then we were sent to sit around a fire as they got our guns and gear all ready for us.

I was super psyched!!

Morgan and I just before our first game

We played on the fort course in the woods and then went to play some speedball. I did not care for speedball. As there was very little space and people so you were out there for at most a minute before you got shot. At the fort course, our first game, I was the second one out and had gotten hit on my wrist and my hip. That hurt!! Well got the first hit out of the way, now I know what it feels like.
At speedball I got hit at least 4 times on my butt and it hurt like crazy. The worst was when Kai hit me on the leg and I could see the paintballs coming as she went up and down my leg. OUCH!!!! I had such a great time and was glad we finally got to go!

We stopped to get gas before getting on the freeway because it was only $3.05; which is a lot cheaper than in Findlay. While we stopped we all got a little something to eat for the long drive back. I got a pint of ice cream and managed to eat it all by myself:)

Yesterday, Monday, one of the shots on my leg bruised kind of badly, hurt to touch it and I could feel the lump through my jeans.

This is the shot that was on my hip, the first very first time I got hit.

Adventuresome

Went out to dinner tonight with Morgan and her dad at feh Tokyo steak house. They were determined to have me try sushi. So I decided to be adventuresome!

Octopus salad

Seaweed salad

Sushi

Some more sushi

After cattle show team I went out with Cassie and Jenise to Iggy's self served frozen yogurt. I had never been and they were determined to take me. It was amazing!!!
This was the toppings bar

Frozen yogurt machines

I couldn't choose between the two so I got two bowls. You make your own "sundae" and pay by the ounce. I got Peanut butter cup and pumpkin cheesecake. AMAZING!

Genetics

I learned about genetics and the 6 basic crosses in intro to animal science today.
Leesa and I made up the bull chromosomes and two girls across the room were the cow chromosomes.
Genetics with Dr. Whitaker is the best!!! We all were laughing so hard the entire class.

Toy Car Collection

The veterinarian's version of a toy car collection.

Here is one of my favorite needles! It was one of the bigger ones and is the size needle that is used for belly button piercings. All the girls in the room who had piercings gasped and said "I wish they had shown me that needle before I got it done!"

This was the biggest needle that Dr. Kerns had. He uses it for microchipping.
