Second Day of Classes

By far the worst and longest days are going to be Tuesday's and Wednesday's as I am in class back to back with not breaks from 9:00am-6:00pm without RA duty. My first class is criminal justice with dr. Phil Lucas, who was a FBI agent at the state level, did some police work and more. He has kind of done a little bit of everything and has some funny and interesting stories to tell. His class will probably be a challenge but it will be fun hopefully. Oh, what adds a little stress to the mix is that he loves to have class discussions so he randomly draws two peoples names and writes them on the board that day of class and those two individuals are then required to lead class discussion and kind of teach the class on the spot. If that doesn't sound stressful to you then I don't know what does lol So as you can probably guess we are all reading the textbook before class in case we are one of the unfortunate two who have to teach the class that day.
After criminal justice we have argumentation and debate. The classroom is something else and definitely different from all my other classrooms so far. There's not many people in my class which can be nice, but of the few that are in the class there are quite a few Saudi Arabians that don't speak the best English. We will just have to see how this goes I guess.

After argumentation and debate I'm back with the one and only, best, funny and crazy teacher; Dr, Whitaker. I had him last year for animal science as you may recall and now I have him again as my physiology of reproduction and growth professor. This will certainly be the most entertaining and interesting class out of the day, if not all my classes.

Back With My Crew

Sunday night as everyone was back on campus and there was little to no work to be done I went over to the house to see my lovely ladies:) we started playing Disney just dance and Tyler, their RA, came and joined in on the fun.
Tyler left us all in the dust as he got the highest scores and for one song he was just 200 points shy of having a perfect and max score. Beginners luck apparently.
I love these three girls:) Alisa (pernounced as Alyssa and not a-Lisa), Alyssa and Alli (left to right)

Training

So first day back in Findlay and we have RA training for 8-10 hours. Not my first choice for how to spend my Saturday, but someone's got to do it and get ready for residents to be coming back the next day. It was well worth the wait for the food though! We had catered dinner from City BBQ and I must say it tasted delicious!

Apparently, according to our dinner table conversation, there is this known fact that was tested by myth busters that a piece of paper cannot be folded more than 7 times. Dallas, Megan, Haley, Anna and I all got out pieces of paper and went to work to prove the fact wrong and that we could do it, but we sadly failed.
After our stomachs were filled and we had finished up training we then played "four on a couch." It was a lot of fun even though we are an extremely competitive group of individuals. Let's just say there was a lot of yelling, pointing fingers, disagreements and loud discussions.

Can you figure out what's wrong?
Our final task of the day and night was to get our posters/welcome banners painted and hung up before Sunday when the residents would be coming back. As you can see aaron got a little too excited and spelled welcome wrong. We got a good laugh out of it.

Signs Are Up

The signs are up and welcome to a new semester in the blue pod!! This semester our theme is gingerbread men.

Alive After Week One

Week one went by rather fast and the number of people counting down the days already is unreal. Monday night at dinner Preston told us that there were only 14 more Monday's to go. I gave him a look and said 'no we are not starting to count! It's only the first day!'

VCA Veterinary Hospital

Another place that I had shadowed and observed at is The Findlay Animal Hospital (VCA). At the clinic we have had quite an array of patients and issues. We had a stray cat, many barn cats, a pregnancy ultrasound on a great dane, new patients, chest taps, vaccinations and more. The cutest patient had to be a little corgi puppy.
In between appointments there might be some surgeries going on. One of the surgeries I got to watch was a mass removal on a dog's right hip. The mass that was removed is the big red blob on the table in the photo. it was nearly the size of a football! It was so cool! A few other surgeries that went on that day were a cat spay and declaw, a reconstructive cruciate ligament and a dental cleaning and teeth removal.

Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic

Here are photos of the Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic; one of the clinic's I am shadowing/observing at. It is very small, but we have a lot of fun and the staff is really nice.

One of the days that I was there one of the staff 's dogs got into the medicine cabinet and ate two bottles of Rimadyl; which is used for arthritis and pain relief in dogs. So, we had to make the dog, Titan, puke up all the rimadyl that he had eaten. We did this by putting a tablet ampomorphine in the corner of his eye by his conjunctival sac. Now imagine the amount of food and how big a Great Dane's stomach is. Well all that was in his stomach ended up on the floor. It smelled terrible and was everywhere!!
After everything was out of his stomach we then had to force feed him activated charcoal. The activated charcoal is a form of decontamination of the gastrointestinal tract for poisoned patients.
