VCA Veterinary Hospital

Another place that I had shadowed and observed at is The Findlay Animal Hospital (VCA). At the clinic we have had quite an array of patients and issues. We had a stray cat, many barn cats, a pregnancy ultrasound on a great dane, new patients, chest taps, vaccinations and more. The cutest patient had to be a little corgi puppy.
In between appointments there might be some surgeries going on. One of the surgeries I got to watch was a mass removal on a dog's right hip. The mass that was removed is the big red blob on the table in the photo. it was nearly the size of a football! It was so cool! A few other surgeries that went on that day were a cat spay and declaw, a reconstructive cruciate ligament and a dental cleaning and teeth removal.

Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic

Here are photos of the Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic; one of the clinic's I am shadowing/observing at. It is very small, but we have a lot of fun and the staff is really nice.

One of the days that I was there one of the staff 's dogs got into the medicine cabinet and ate two bottles of Rimadyl; which is used for arthritis and pain relief in dogs. So, we had to make the dog, Titan, puke up all the rimadyl that he had eaten. We did this by putting a tablet ampomorphine in the corner of his eye by his conjunctival sac. Now imagine the amount of food and how big a Great Dane's stomach is. Well all that was in his stomach ended up on the floor. It smelled terrible and was everywhere!!
After everything was out of his stomach we then had to force feed him activated charcoal. The activated charcoal is a form of decontamination of the gastrointestinal tract for poisoned patients.

Lab Time

Here are some photos from the research lab that I'm doing my research in.
This is where we stain the plates that have already been treated and have had time for the treatment to take place. We stain the plates so that the cells are easier to see and count.

This is one of the microscopes that we use to count the cells in each quadrant of the plates.

Never Know What You'll Find

Was walking through rounds, where we patrol on duty, and came across an overflowed washer. I responded with I want to know who did this, because I want to know how they did it. The washers at school lock closed once you push the start button. What happens if I realize my phone is in there once I push start? Well, your in trouble and it probably won't work when it's done.
I would really like to know how they managed to get this to overflow, but I haven't yet:(

Grades

Saw this squirrel hanging on to the roof of the village, my dorm. Students were walking by saying, that's how I feel about my grades right now; trying to hold on for dear life.

A Great Study Break

With our Organic Chemistry coming up last week we had a great study snack that helped us make it through. Thanks to mom and her delicious homemade gingerbread cookies and frosting. Mom, everyone loved them and said to tell you thank you and they are delicious!

The Snack that Smiles Back kind of Day

Went to my RA mailbox and found a box of goldfish!! Anna and I were on duty the other night over Homecoming Weekend and we were starving at 11:00pm and still had to go till 2:00am so we decided to make a pit stop at my room to get some goldfish

This Little Piggy

Had to clean out these pens last week for barn duty. Everyone hates this job because the pigs smell terrible and the smell sticks to you and takes several showers in order to rid yourself of the smell.

Bio Lab Fun

Always manage to have the best time in Biology Lab with Megan and Jade. Here's Megan trying to measure the CO2 content of her mouth with the CO2 meter as we wait for our solution to warm up in the hot water bath.
We can be the best students and the worst students at the same time in this class. We make use of our time when we are sitting around waiting for results by doing homework or studying for other classes. But we manage to get our work done and get accurate readings.

Homecoming Weekend

It's homecoming weekend!! Celebrating 25 years as a University.

Some delicious red raspberry pie with a little bit of ice cream:)

Twinning with Jenise

The triplets, Me, Jenise and Haley went to the Homecoming game this past weekend and got to see the Homecoming court and who was Homecoming King and Queen. Dallas got homecoming king, but I don't know the person who got Queen.

Morning Walk

Can't ask for a better morning than taking our calves for a walk and being able to watch the sunrise.

Stress Reliever

Last Friday night, after all our tests and quizzes were over with Sarah, Ashley and I went on a girls night out/date night. We went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse and enjoyed some delicious steaks, rolls and potatoes and then went to the movies.

Every once in a while the school gives free movie tickets away, so we had gotten them at the beginning of the month and finally were able to use them to go see Maze Runner. Maze Runner was a great movie, but really intense. Sarah was ready to duct tape my mouth shut because I was making too much noise and jumping around in my seat like a fish out of water.
We then went back and watched a comedy movie on Netflix to help us get over the cliff hanger of the Maze Runner and to get a good laugh in.

Taming the Bull

The other Monday morning I had show cattle team and we were assigned to lead/walk the two bulls and a pen full of heifers.
As we walked by the Llamas and Alpacas would come out and meet the calves. They were both shy and interested in each other at the same time.
The bull that I got was at first a little rough and would run, put his head down and drag me, but eventually he just started to walk beside with no problems.

Morgan Link, an RA in the village with me, and I with my bull.

Organic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and more

Had our first Organic Chemistry exam last Friday. My week consisted of studying Organic Chemistry and Biology non-stop for all week.

This is how we started to feel the night before the test as we had been studying for 6 hours in the library.

Did Someone Say Budweiser?

Guess whose staying at the Findlay Western Farm?! Yep, THE Budweiser Clydesdale's!

We got to pet and see all twelve of them the other night and you could stop in anytime during the day. They were quite the attraction. The groomers would take them on walks during the day, four at a time. Can you imagine walking four Clydesdales at one time?! Not many of us could, but they were rather well trained and behaved to do that.

They don't travel light

The Clydesdale's even did their wagon routine for the public at the Hancock County Fairgrounds and at the University's farm.

So cute
